THE GROFF/ELLISON POLITICAL REPORT

Step and fetch for VP spot?

As BET Founder Bob Johnson commenced calls to Congressional Black Caucus Clinton supporters to place pressure on Sen. Obama to pick Sen. Clinton as his running mate, reports surface this evening that the NY Sen. will withdraw on Friday.

Still no word on whether or not that is a conditional withdrawal, considering the defiant tone of her speech last night.  And, certainly, we heard that report before, so anything is possible at this stage.

There is something eerily … overseer about this: Johnson, perceived by many as billionaire pusher of Black stereotypes on TV, is beckoned by Clinton to somehow influence CBC Members into muscling the Democratic nominee.  This assumes that Obama will even listen to the CBC, which couldn’t bring itself to coalesce around the Illinois Senator with many Members waiting until the day of his presumptive status to finally endorse him.  At this stage, he owes nothing to the CBC.
